Vainakh

Vainakh tribes are considered to be ancestors of Chechen and Ingush people of north Caucasus. There were many tribes in Caucasus that could be called Vainakhs, not all of them survived. The Vainakh ethnography is represented, due to about 1600 years of intermarriages, in several tribes in the Caucasus: Chechens, Kists, Ingushs, Kumyks, Avars, Darghins, Laks, Lezgins, Tabasarans, Aguls, Rutuls, Tsakhurs, Balkars, Karachais, Nogais, Tatars, Kabardins, Adyghes, Cherkess, Abazins as well as in Vainakh-speaking Georgians Bats people (Tsova-Tushs).
The Vainakh were aborigines tribes who for centuries had inhabited the Caucasus Range and have left a trace in the lineage of the modern-day Chechens and Ingushis. The contemporary Chechens, Ingushis and Tsova-Tushs are believed by some to be descendants of ancient Hurrians.
