Tessie Naranjo

Dr. Tessie Naranjo (Santa Clara Pueblo) is a co-director, with Dr. Sue-Ellen Jacobs, of the Northern Pueblos Institute at Northern New Mexico College in Espanola, New Mexico. She is a sociologist (Ph.D. University of New Mexico) and potter from the Tewa pueblo of Santa Clara. She was the first chairperson of the advisory committee of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, Vice-President of the Indigenous Language Institute, the museum studies institute coordinator for the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum, the director of Cultural Preservation Program at Santa Clara Pueblo and Consultant for Video Project at the Museum of Indian Art and Culture of the Museum of New Mexico.
Tessie is the daughter of Rose Naranjo, sister of Dr. Rina Swentzell, Professor Tito Naranjo, potter Jody Folwell, sculptor Michael Naranjo, potter Dolly Naranjo, sculptor Nora Naranjo-Morse and potter Edna Romero. She is the aunt of sculptor Roxanne Swentzell and potters Jody Naranjo, Susan Folwell, Polly Rose Folwell, Dusty Naranjo and Forrest Naranjo.
