Indigenous peoples in Nicaragua

The Atlantic coast is divided in two autonomous regions,
- Región Atlántica Autónoma del Norte - RAAN, were are living the Miskito and Sumu-Mayangna peoples, both of Misumalpan Language family.
- Región Atlántica Autónoma del Sur - RAAS, is the territory of the Rama people of Chibchan Language family and small groups of Garifuna or Black Carib, descendents of black slaves.
In the central part of Nicaragua are living the Matagalpa (or Cacaopera) and Chorotega (or Mangue) peoples.
At the pacific coast are living the Maribio (Subtibia or Xiu) and the Nahua peoples.
