CODENPE (Consejo de Desarrollo de las Nacionalidades y Pueblos del Ecuador), the Development Council of Nationalities and Peoples of Ecuador, was created on 11th December 1998 as an "Ecuadorian government agency dedicated to the promotion and facilitation of integrated development for the indigenous of Ecuador through their participation in the political process and an improved quality of life"
